Managing Organizational ChangePrivately Held IT Consulting CompanyThe RequestTo ensure that this company grows in a way that supports its values, and addresses all the elements of effective organizational change. The ContextThis organization is going through rapid growth and expansion of their product offerings. It involves changes in all their activities-sales, marketing, new product development, etc. and will include more than one acquisition. The ChallengeThis organization has people in many locations around the country and has to operate on a "virtual" basis for many of its functions. There is considerable push to get their new offerings to the market quickly and establish itself in the marketplace as a leader in this industry. Although significant resources have been applied to this endeavor, they are operating in a highly stressful and resource-tight environment. The ApproachThis project requires working with the owners of the company to help them create a vision from their recognition of an opportunity. I work with the planning team to help them create a highly effective team for the project as well as create the planning documentation for the organizational change activities, including key messages, target audiences, etc. My functioning also includes facilitating sessions with the whole organization focusing on values and training activities needed to support the planned organizational growth. The ResultThis work is in progress, but the core planning team is functioning much more effectively since we had a team building session. The need for clarification between the owners and planning team regarding expectations and roles has been identified and planned, as well as the need for clarifying the working relationships between other key players in this effort. The organization development planning document is in place to guide the organizational change for the next 9 months.
